80% of how safely and enjoyably you ski comes down to the state of your gear
Properly set bindings matter — they're what stands between you and an accident on the slopes. Just as you'd check your tyre pressure before a long drive, regular servicing of your skis or board affects both how well you ski and how safe you are doing it.
Stone grinding opens up more than 25 base structures, each suited to a different kind of snow — hard, dry or wet.
Mathieu, hard at work in the workshop
You can see the difference straight away: a sharpened, waxed base grips better and glides better.
Questions about our services?
Workshop FAQ — repairs & servicing
Where's your workshop?
Our workshop is right at the foot of the slopes in La Pierre Saint-Martin, at the Loca-Ski shop, Galerie Marchande, Résidence Pescamou (64570 Arette) — or call us on 05 59 66 09 79.
What services do you offer?
We offer a full range of servicing and repairs for skis and snowboards, including:
waxing
edge sharpening
base repairs
filling chips and scratches
re-moulding
We're the only workshop in La Pierre Saint-Martin — and between Pau and Bayonne — equipped to offer stone base grinding.
What is base repair?
Base repair means filling any holes, nicks or scratches in your base before any flattening work is done.
Keeps the glide even across the whole base
Extends the life of your gear
Gets the ski properly ready for waxing to actually work
What does flattening my skis or board actually involve?
Only a stone finish can truly flatten a base and cut a structure into it — crossed or linear, shallower or deeper — and that structure is what really makes the difference to your glide.
In the trade, that's the difference between belt sanding and stone finishing.
How often should I get my gear serviced?
We'd recommend a service every 5–10 days on the slopes, or more often if you're skiing in tough conditions — artificial snow, rocks and so on. Regular servicing makes your gear last longer and makes a real difference out on the slopes.
How long does a service or repair take?
Even a simple wax needs a night: the skis have to dry out and cool down before scraping. Drop your gear off in the evening and it'll be ready when we open the next morning. More involved repairs can take a bit longer — just ask us for a time estimate.
Do I need to book to get something repaired or serviced?
No — just come by the workshop during opening hours. That said, in peak season there can be a bit of a wait, so booking ahead is a good way to make sure your gear's ready in time. Give us a call on 05 59 66 09 79 to book.
Do you service all types of skis and snowboards?
Yes — we service and repair every type of ski and snowboard, from piste skis to freeride and cross-country, and snowboards of any brand or size.
What happens if my gear can't be repaired?
If, once we've had a look, your gear turns out to be beyond repair, we'll let you know straight away. We can also advise you on a replacement and point you towards something that suits your level and the way you ski.
Do you also hire out ski and snowboard equipment?
Yes — we hire skis, snowboards, touring gear, helmets, snowshoes and sledges. You'll find all our packs and add-ons on the Prices page.
Alongside servicing and repairs, we also sell a range of accessories, care products and spare parts for skis and snowboards.
